Earthquake’s truck

March 31, 2008 By: wowo Category: Automobile No Comments →

Have you ever wondered during an earthquake what it feels like to be around? There’s a fancy new truck touring Japan, if you don’t want to go through the actual danger of being caught in one. With a much lower chance of you ending up underneath a fallen building, it will give you the more experience. Just what to expect in that earthquake-prone country, the truck showing people features a small room that shakes in a real earthquake approximation.

The setup looks like a mix between a pretty mediocre amusement park ride and a sweet emergency-preparedness device, as you can see from the video above. You will know what to do during the real thing if once you take a ride in it. Probably it’s worthy, right?

Have you ever heard that the first service pack for Windows Vista had rolled out in the last few days? Microsoft claiming it make the operating system more secure, to fix lots of bugs, and could even cure all known diseases. It didn’t notice a whole lot of difference, while took Service Pack 1 for a spin. For the entire stand-alone installation, it’s needed a 434.5MB download. By simply doing nothing but having auto updates enabled, you can wait for it to automatically update your current Vista operating system.

Taking about 30 minutes, the install went flawlessly from start to finish with a couple of reboots. While compared with Windows XP, the biggest flaw in Vista is: dog-slow file transfer speeds over a network. This new version of Vista, as Microsoft says, can do those transfers 45% faster. Our test group of 57 files, took 1:36 to transfer with SP1, totaling 847MB, compared with 1:45 using the original Vista. It is 9.4% faster not a 40% speedup. It is certainly welcome with the any extra speed on our Vista PC.

So, the conclusion, might be: As the Microsoft bashers say it is, Vista isn’t so bad. With this service pack, now it’s even more tolerable, especially if you disable all its nag screens.

Microhoo-Yahosoft: The merger of Yahoo and Microsoft

yahoo-microsoft

It’s hot news when Microsoft made an unsolicited bid for $44.6 billion to buy Yahoo. What’s the main purposed of that? It means that Microsoft have a goals to bring Google down. And the way to thinks for this goal is that the huge traffic numbers of Yahoo might help.

To the web surfers, like us, how does all this affect? More than a stock portfolio issue, I think. As we know, on dozens of Yahoo! web services, hundreds of millions people relied, under Microsoft ownership any one of which could change significantly. Don’t expect your email address to disappear, the Yahoo! name is valuable, but the feel of many Yahoo!-run websites could change significantly, including del.icio.us and Flickr, if the merger goes through. It could be also disastrous, if an unsuccessful merger occured, then driving more users to Google. What do you think? icon_rolleyes
